I love New Orleans so much! I love the history, I love the beauty of the city, and yes I love the food. One of my working months as a flight attendant had me flying Los Angeles to New Orleans for a full month of long layovers. Because of this, I had the idea to find and eat at the best and most haunted restaurants in the French Quarter. And let me just say this, it was so much fun! And now I want to share my findings with you all! Here are my favorite top 5 haunted restaurants in the French Quarter!

The Top 5 Haunted Restaurants in the French Quarter:
#1. Muriel’s Jackson Square
Legend has it, Pierre Antoine Lepardi Jourdan, who committed suicide here after losing a poker game in the property’s Seance Lounges upstairs, still haunts the establishment. The owners and staff even keep a table set for him, which I think is rather cute!
Voices and knocking can be heard in the upper Seance Lounges and paranormal investigators have confirmed there are spirits trapped in the walls.
Now moving on from ghosts to their spectacular food, I love the catfish here at Muriel’s. I’ve been to this restaurant about three times and every time the food is to die for! (No pun intended) ;). The service is impeccable and you’ll be dreaming about the wonderful meals you will have. Please go, it’s so good!
#2. Brennan’s Restaurant
Most of the ghosts associated here are from the previous owners. The site use to be a residence until Edward Brennan decided to found his restaurant here.
The most famous paranormal siting here is the specter of the second-story Red Room. It’s said to be the ghost of a former owner who lived here and lost everything. He committed suicide after murdering his entire family. If that’s not dark enough to call any fellow ghost enthusiasts I’m not sure what will.
I loved everything here at Brennan’s! I had one of the best crab eggs benedict of my life. Everything was so great. I sat at the bar and had the most wonderful experience. The bartender was so friendly as well as the other guests seated with me. I ordered dessert and loved that too. The food here is so amazingly tasty! You’ll love it! I’m very honored to have it as one of my top 5 restaurants in the French Quarter.
#3. Antoine’s Restaurant
Antoine’s is the oldest family-run restaurant in the country. It was established in 1840 and has continued to serve amazing food to this day. Antoine Alciatore created his restaurant in the French Quarter. He did well for himself. But in 1874 he began to feel ill. He did not want to die here, instead he wanted to die in his birthplace in France. He left the restaurant to his wife and sailed for Marseilles. His parting words to his wife were, “As I take boat for Marseilles, we will not meet again on earth.” He stayed true to his word and died within the year. Many say it is his ghost who haunts the restaurant still. But not in a scary way at all, instead just as a way to watch all the people enjoying his food.
I’ve been here twice and loved my meals. I love the service here. I had an amazing waiter on my first trip and he gave me a full tour of the place. It’s really beautiful. Definitely ask for a tour. You can even rent out some of the rooms. Really fun experience and a beautiful dining room.
#4. Arnaud’s Restaurant
Arnaud’s was created by a French wine salesman named Arnaud Cazenave over 80 years ago. It is said that his spirit is the most active in the restaurant. Many think it’s because he was so strict on French service back in the day. He called himself Count Arnaud, for no reason as he wasn’t a real count (I love this man). But many think he’s still here to make sure everything remains perfect for his guests. His daughter, who took over the restaurant, Germaine Cazenave, is also said to have been seen as a misty spirit around the restaurant. It’s nice to see the family still taking pride in what they created, even from the grave.
Like with all of these, the food is amazing. You’ll love the dishes here and it’s a beautiful spot! If you like spicy things, definitely try out the Count’s house made spicy Remoulade Sauce.
#5. The Court of Two Sisters
Emma Camors and Bertha Angaud opened a shop at this location and served tea and cakes. The two siblings died within two months apart in 1944 and are said to be seen walking around the grounds.
I loved the cake at The Court of Two Sisters. Ironically since that’s what use to be sold here. I had the buffet brunch when I went. I love sitting on the beautiful patio, but I’ll be honest, the food didn’t blow me away as much as the others on this list. It’s a beautiful atmosphere though, but not sure it’s worth the price tag. I have decided to add it to my top 5 haunted restaurants in the French Quarter because it is haunted, and the food is very good, but I’d visit the other four first. I’d also probably try having dinner here next time.
Bonus: Cafe Du Monde!
Who doesn’t love beignets?! I get them every single time I’m in New Orleans. Customers have also said the place is haunted. A ghost of a waiter will come and take your order and then disappear. Is this bad service? I’m kidding, but no they say a different waiter will come after to take their order as if no one else had done it before.
Customers have also said they’ve seen ghosts, vampires, and zombies looking over the Mississippi River and Jackson Square while sitting here in the cafe. I myself have not seen this, but I also haven’t visited in the middle of the night. Cafe Du Monde is open 24 hours a day so maybe go after midnight to see the paranormal.
New Orleans is such a magical place and you’ll never have a shortage of food. I love going and trying new restaurants, and visiting the same ones that I’ve come to love over the years. I’m very lucky I get to keep visiting this gorgeous city. I know you’ll love New Orleans as much as I do. And with Halloween coming up, I hope you enjoy these top 5 haunted restaurants in the French Quarter!

4 years agoI adore New Orleans – and these restaurants sound like such spooky fun! Beignets are life, and I would travel for days just to have those warm sweet parcels – so Cafe du Monde is on my list for next time.

4 years agoI am super scared of anything spooky, and cannot, even in my wildest dreams, imagine sitting in one of those places and eat. But it is certainly amazing to know there are so many brave hearts who visit these places! Plus good to know these many restaurants even exist and run business successfully!
