My Ultimate Guide to Staying in the Getaway Cabins

WHAT IS GETAWAY?

What is the Getaway cabins you might be asking? Well it’s a place to truly unwind, unplug and simply reconnect with yourself. They have various outposts all within two hours of some major cities around the United States. It’s an amazing out of the way glamping campsite. Their aim is to get you to truly relax – whether by yourself, with your sweet someone, or even with friends. It’s a place to unplug and just enjoy nature in your tiny cabin with a giant window you’re going to become completely obsessed with.

But I mostly just want to share this truly rewarding vacation idea with you all. I know you’ll love it as much as I did.

I booked a cabin out of the Atlanta, Georgia location. My boyfriend was living in Atlanta at the time and we wanted to go somewhere to celebrate us. We didn’t have a ton of free time, so this seemed like the perfect staycation idea. And it truly was! Everything about the trip was amazing! They even threw in a free s’mores kit. How great is that?!

HOW TO GET THERE:

Once you’ve booked your cabin, they’ll send you a map and instructions so you can reach your cabin on the day. Two hours before check-in you’ll receive your cabin name and the door code to enter. Definitely try and make it to your cabin for check-in so you can enjoy as much time as possible in your beautiful tiny cabin.

We ended up leaving after lunch and got there just in time for check in. Check in is so easy. You use your code and then you can enter your cabin. Such an easy and stress free process. Check out is just as easy. Just tidy up a bit and make sure to lock your cabin. But they’ll send you all the instructions so again, no worries.

WHAT TO DO WHILE THERE:

Anything you want. No really, it’s so relaxing. I’d love to go back and maybe spend some time using it as a writer’s retreat. But I’m happy to just go back to truly unplug and recharge too.

Play cards. They offer you a box of cards and a fun game book that my boyfriend and I enjoyed very much. Some of the games are quite complicated which provided many laughs.

Build a fire and make s’mores of course! We did the whole sitting by the fire and roasting marshmallows bit. It was so serene out here. And the stars were truly beautiful! I also caught quite a few marshmallows on fire, but again it all just added to the adventure. And they still tasted good.

Reading. We both love reading. So it was nice to spend some time with our books and again enjoying the giant window. There are also some lovely books provided if you left home without one. The book I read while visiting was Slaughterhouse-Five: A Novel (Modern Library 100 Best Novels) which I very much enjoyed and recommend.

Hiking. There are some fun trails around your Getaway Cabin that I recommend enjoying. It’s nothing too strenuous, but definitely a beautiful walk in nature.

Cooking. I very much enjoy cooking and I loved cooking here! They offer you provisions you can purchase if you left something at home. I went shopping before the trip and brought a lot of stuff but it’s nice to know they have things if you forget. No need to bring pots or pans – they have those. Unless you’d like to use a cast-iron on the fire, then bring that. But I had no problem cooking with what they had.

THE SPACE:

The room is so incredibly clean! The bathroom was amazing – it’s not like real camping – it’s more like glamping (which I’m definitely all about). You’ll feel so cozy inside your cabin. And there is a landline in case of emergencies as you’re supposed to put your mobile phones inside the provided lockbox upon arrival. It’s truly a place to unplug and recharge.

You’ll feel all alone inside your cabin, but there are actually a bunch of other cabins in the campsite. You can see them from outside, but you never feel like you’re intruding on anyone. We saw a few other guests but that was about it.

And do you have a fur baby? No problem! They allow pets! You will have to pay a fee for them, but I’m sure your loved ones will be very grateful for the adventure.

Also we drank the filtered water out of the sink, but if you’d rather not, feel free to bring your own water. There are also charging stations to charge your cameras or phone if you must use it (phone signal is a bit spotty out here though). Also there’s no Wifi – but who needs it in a place like this?!

ADVENTURES WHILE ENJOYING YOUR GETAWAY CABIN OUT OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA:

HIKE THE BLOOD MOUNTAIN TRAIL:

After our amazing stay we decided to spend a little extra time and find some hikes around the Chattahoochee National Forest (which is where your cabin will be if you do the Getaway out of Atlanta). We did the Blood Mountain Trail and absolutely loved it! It is quite a hike though, so please make sure you have some great hiking shoes with you. Bring snacks as well, we had lunch up on the top and enjoyed it immensely with the stunning views. And please make sure you bring plenty of water.

Some of my recommended hiking gear includes:

• A Swell Water Bottle. I love how cool they always keep my water. This is the one I’m currently using because I think it’s the cutest: S’ip by S’well Stainless Steel Travel Mug-Double-Layered Vacuum-Insulated Food and Drinks Cold and Hot-with No Condensation-BPA Free Water Bottle, 16 Fl Oz, School of Fish.

• Comfortable hiking shoes. I like a cross between sneakers and hiking shoes. If you’re the same maybe try any of these on at your local store. (I know shoes always fit people differently so it’s always best to actually try them on).
