How to Spend a Layover in San Jose del Cabo

As a flight attendant I’ve been able to travel to some pretty amazing places. This last weekend was no exception. I was finally able to work to and layover in Cabo, Mexico! I was so excited. And it did not disappoint. Keep reading for how to spend a layover in San Jose del Cabo.

The most important thing I should first point out is that there are two areas to Cabo. There’s Cabo San Lucas which is where the arch is and where the party is. And there’s San Jose del Cabo which is where we stay and where the cute town is and is often quieter. Now if you want to party I highly recommend staying in Cabo San Lucas, but if you’d like a more relaxed trip definitely stay in San Jose del Cabo.

How to Spend a Layover in San Jose del Cabo:

1. Explore the town of San Jose del Cabo

The town is just a short walk from our layover hotel. And it’s absolutely beautiful. Every corner is picturesque and the food here is top notch. There’s an art walk here on Thursday nights if you’re in town, otherwise you can do your own art walk. You could easily spend a full day here or just a few hours. Up to you and how much food and drink hopping you want to do. I’ll add my top food places further down below.

2. Take a glass bottom boat tour to the Arch!

Now I didn’t get to do this on this specific trip, but it’s high on my list for next time. The whole boat is clear which gives everyone a great view. It’s either a taxi ride (about 30 minutes) or a bus ride away. I will definitely be taking the Glass Bottom Boat Tour next time I go.

3. Enjoy the beach at your hotel

Now there aren’t many places to actually swim in the ocean in Cabo as it’s a bit too dangerous. But you can still enjoy the beautiful views and warm sands. Keep reading to find out one of the beaches you can swim at.

4. Enjoy the pool at your hotel

Now if you want to swim I highly recommend you head to your hotel’s pool. Our layover hotel has a great pool where you can spend a few hours or the whole day at.

5. Do an ATV Tour!

Didn’t get a chance to do this either, but it’s on my list. I love ATVs. Rented one in Santorini and had the BEST time. It’s a great way to see the sights of a place and also have a grand adventure.

Where to Eat on Your Layover in San Jose del Cabo:

How to spend a layover in San Jose del Cabo? By eating of course! The food in Mexico is always the best and San Jose del Cabo is no exception. Here are my top places…

Pezgallo Coffee

Definitely start your morning here. The chilaquiles are so good! I definitely was thinking about them for the rest of the day and cannot wait to go back.

Los Tres Gallos

Amazing food and drinks in a beautiful setting. Great service and cannot wait to go back.

La Lupita

La Lupita

If you’re looking for tacos look no further than La Lupita.

Where to Stay on a Layover in San Jose del Cabo:

Now in case you’re not on a working layover here are a few hotels I will definitely be staying at when I go explore San Jose del Cabo on my own.

Montage Los Cabos

The Montage Los Cabos is absolutely stunning. And it has one of the few beaches you can actually swim at. It’s definitely more of a hotel you wouldn’t want to leave. There’s so much to do on the grounds and every step will lead you to a new photo worthy spot.

Acre Baja

Ever dream of waking up in a treehouse? Well you can do just that at Acre Baja. The grounds look beautiful and really the room speaks for itself. Sign me up please! Now if only my airline could put us up here for the night on our work trips… wink wink ;).

San Jose del Cabo is truly a beautiful place to visit. It reminded me of Palm Springs (which I absolutely love) but by the ocean. It’s a place I truly hope to go back to again and again. The food, the beauty, the adventure, I loved it all. And it’s not a far trek from Los Angeles, making it a great weekend trip. It’s also a great place to get to send a night in for work. As a flight attendant, this is how to spend a layover in San Jose del Cabo.
