24 Hours in Denver

Sometimes my work sends me to fun cities (okay so I pretty much always get sent to fun cities) ;), but today I get to spend 24 hours in Denver, Colorado. I love Denver. It has such a great vibe. And you can find so many great restaurants and coffee houses (I do love my tea). The hiking is great too, but I won’t have enough time to do that on this trip.

This trip I’m going to explore a few things around my hotel (which is conveniently located in downtown). My first stop is going to be Molly Brown’s house. Yes, the unsinkable Molly Brown (who’s real name was Margaret but I guess the playwright thought Molly had a better ring to it). I won’t mention how many times I’ve seen the DiCaprio Titanic when I was younger (now the ending really makes no sense, I mean they both could have fit on that piece of wood… but I digress) ;).

See the State Capitol.

I absolutely love walking. Not only does it save money on transportation, but it allows me to really see a city. And I’m so glad I decided to walk today, because on the way I came upon the State Capitol and decided to walk inside. It’s absolutely beautiful!! I highly recommend going in and exploring the different levels. There were some people on a guided tour but I was fine just walking around on my own. Really gorgeous inside.  And it does make for a great stop on your 24 hours in Denver.

Visit Molly Brown’s House.

After my slight deviation, I was back on track to Molly Brown’s house. I arrived around 10:30, but the next tour wasn’t until 12 (I recommend going early as they only let a small group at a time inside), so I wandered around the gift shop, watched the documentary in the basement downstairs, and found myself a local iced chai tea latte at the neighboring coffee house before my tour.

The tour was lovely. Margaret Brown was such an incredible human being. She believed in equality for all and had a lust for travel. Someone after my own heart. The tour guides really love everything about her and I highly recommend taking the tour if you’re interested. An out of state ticket cost me only $11.

Grab food at The Denver Central Market.

After my tour I started on my walk to the Denver Central Market. I love markets and thought it would be a great place for lunch. It was. Had a great lunch and fantastic ice cream for desert! So yummy :). Ice cream always makes me so happy.

Explore Downtown and Union Station.

Next I wanted to explore a few more places around downtown Denver. I started for Union Station and along the way I stumbled across their local Oktoberfest. So much fun! I love street gatherings. There was a man on a stage trying to see how long he could hold two beer steins at one end and an authentic polka band at the other. Such a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

Enjoy the Book Stores on your 24 Hours in Denver.

I continued wandering around the downtown area for a little while longer on this 24 hours in Denver layover. Found a lovely bookstore with a pretty great travel section. Also really loved the cute little wooden booths you could sit in and read. Checked out Larimer Square, the founding spot of Denver, before heading back to my hotel. With pick-up for our flight being a little under an hour away it was time for me to say goodbye to Denver. Such a lovely day, and I do recommend a trip to beautiful Colorado if you have the time. Stay amazing friends!
